How to archive "Hours" already billed

Hi timo . As you are about to release a new behaviour for hiding tasks I wanted to ask you whether there would be an easy way to implement a feature for hiding individual working hours as well, much like gcapotorto suggested. Your suggestion to use tags would work of course. It just means that I'd have to constantly apply a filter to hide those units. This limits my abilities to use the filter for other stuff.

I used Qlaqs for some time, which allows me to batch-select certain sessions (pretty much like suggested here) to do lots of different stuff with them including adding them to the "archive". If you want to see the hidden working units, you can activate the option to "Show archived tasks" in the filter-menu. A feature like that would be amazing as I could just hide working units, that I don’t need anymore while at the same time I’d be given the opportunity to use the whole possibilities of the filter for "unhidden" units.

Any news on this? Also looking for an easy way to achieve entries that have been invoiced.

You can mark invoiced work units as "archived" using an "Archived" tag - such a tag can even be added automatically for work units when using the "Create invoice" or "Export" button in WorkingHours. Doesn't that do the job?

Hello, I'm new to this app (Mac + Android) and the logic is a bit hard to grasp so far.

I come from another app (Timesheet) where is was pretty easy to organize ongoing work, billed work, paid work and archive tasks. I stopped using it because one of their last update last year made everything super slow to load, like the app was constantly collecting info from the cloud for no logical reason.

Anyway, I see Timo repeating over and over on different posts "you can do that with tags". Sure, but it is not that obvious as a beginner here.

I have created 2 tags: "billed" and "paid". How do I apply one of these tags to all work unit at once as I finished one task?

Right click on the task > add tag > "Billed" only assign this tag for the future work units.
Right click on a work unit from the Time Tracking section has to be done one by one, which cannot be the way.
Shift/command + left click does not allow to select several work unit.
I do not see any "bulk options" as Timo says above.

I really wish there would be some video tutorials explaining how to achieve these type of common needs that several of us seem to want. As a visual designer, I understand better concept when they are illustrated :-)

You can go to the settings and set "Group work unis" to "by years". Then use the filter to only show the task you want to mark as "billed". Then right click on the "year" grouping item on in the timeline and add the tag. Does that work?

Thank you. That does work but I could certainly not have guessed it.
Adding a tag to the year instead of the task itself is counter intuitive.

damdam I understand that multiselect would be required to make this more intuitive, but it adds additional complexity. For example, on Android, you usually would long-press to switch to "edit mode" in a list view. But on WorkingHours, this is already used to show the context menu.
On iOS, there often is an "Edit" button to make multiple items in a list selectable - but there is currently no room for this "Edit" button - I would have to remove existing buttons.
Let me know if you have any easy-to-integrate and intuitive way to bulk-edit in mind

... so I did try to imagine a way to make this easier :-)
I'm not saying my solution is THE solution but actually, I cannot find a practical way to achieve what I'm looking for.

Hmmm, I'm not referring to a work unit as I want to change the status of a whole task or all its working unit at once.

For example, my client ask me to design a logo so I create a task "Client, logo". Once this task is done, I wish I could label it as "billed" without having to add a tag to each work unit individually or having to go to the settings and temporarily change "Group working units: by day" > "by year" to batch add that tag to all working unit of that task. I prefer display those "by day" so changing each each time I when to change the status of one of my task is a bit cumbersome.

One of the first thing I need when I use an app to count the time I spend on each project is to be able to organize my work in 3 big groups:

what tasks I am working on (list of tasks "opened")
what tasks I have done and waiting for payment (list of tasks I have billed)
what tasks I have been payed for and have been archived (I don't need to see those at all unless I go to a dedicated section or select that specific tag.

I understand you want to keep your app as simple as possible but right now, using tags to achieve this is not my favorite thing about your app. I like the rest though. It's fast, it's clean, it's well presented.

I'll create a feature request then. Let's see if other users would find that useful or not :-)

Hello @timo, I see a task having 3 states:

opened (working on)
billed (waiting for payment)
Paid (archive/hidden)

As we can already hide tasks, meaning that those tasks are done/paid/archive, would that make sense to have another icon in the Tasks panel so we could pin/note a task as "billed"?

When a task is opened, we can "billed" it before we hide it later once we have been paid.
When a task has been paid and is hidden, the billed icon is greyed out.

In the Analytics panel we could then sort by billed tasks as well and follow what is on going, what has been paid and what's done.

What you are suggesting is a new feature now that would require a change to the database schema, which is something I'd want to avoid. Also, please create a new "Feature request" if you want to suggest a new feature

damdam With the current feature set, instead of adding a task, maybe you can rename a task to something like "Billed - task XY" when you finished working on it and then also hide the task once it has been paid. With the sorting feature you can show these three types of tasked in a grouped way in the task list
