Continue, after another task with old task

I guess the terminology wasn't clear. In WorkingHours "tasks" are what in the German translation is called "Aufgaben". What you mean is the "work unit description" (Beschreibung der Arbeitseinheiten). You are right that it currently requires the filter to see the total time of multiple work units with the same description.
By the way, in the "Export" screen you can already "group by work unit description" and then see the total time for each description. Maybe this serves as a workaround.
Also, there is this feature request, where I might add an additional level of grouping, which could also include "group by description". Would this be something that you would use and that would help you?

I'll write this in German 😃, where I use which value.

Aufgabe = Kundennamen
Beschreibung = Eigentliche Aufgabe (Meistens Jira Task nummer)
Details = Einzelne aufgaben die ich gemacht habe

Example:
Aufgabe = Kunde1
Beschreibung = jira-1234
Details = - excel erstellt mit allen werten
- Erstellung server in aws

I would have to have a look, but it would also be one more step.

Currently I create the second task and then take the hours and add them to the first task and delete the second task.

I understand, thanks. Do you think an additional hierarchy level to the grouping (e.g. first group by day, when day is expanded, group by something else, e.g. work unit description) as suggested in the linked feature request would be something that would solve your problem? I am more likely to implement that feature request than this "continue work unit" feature request.

If I could group by description in the analysis, I think that would help me a lot. For me, the "Aufgabe" field is also not necessary, for me "Kunde" would be the better option and "Beschreibung" would be "Aufgabe".

But I think that others are more likely to use this. 😃

This feature request isn't about grouping in the Analysis (feel free to open a separate feature request for this, this could indeed be useful as well), it is about grouping in the time tracking page. The work units currently are grouped by day/week/month/... - the feature requests proposes that there is another level of grouping, which could be "work unit description", "task", etc...

Yesss I need this!!! I work on so many projects and tasks daily and may do something like
Task 1: menu design for taco bell
Task 2: social post for symphony
Task 3: website updates for Olive Garden
Task 4: menu design for taco bell (continued task)
Task 5: poster design for university
Task 6: social media story for symphony (continued task)
Task 7: menu design for taco bell (continued task)
Task 8: poster design for university (continued task)
Task 9: menu design for taco bell (continued task)

and those tasks could be repeated for the same menu or poster over a week or two... and lets say I am giving 10 hours to work on the menu design and 5 hours to work on the poster... how can I keep track of how much time I have left if it makes a new task each time even if I click the old task and click "resume work" the time starts back at 0 and doesn't RESUME the working time it was last at on this task... so if I have to make this task 20 times in a matter of 2 weeks I have to manually keep track of the total time on the project and it is taking up precious time having to manually do that among all the other tasks I have and clients I have. This would be the perfect task manager if I could actually 1. truly resume the time of a task so I know how much total time 2. if I could set a max time amount that would be visible on a task if necessary for that task. Like I said, I have many clients and could be juggling 20 or more tasks a week and I can't always remember how much time I have allocated for each task so to be able to see that in here would be sooooo amazing!! @timo

taylove918 Even with multiple work units, the time is always aggregated in the Analytics page or the Export. These are the places where you can best keep track of how much time you spent on a certain project - or is there any problems with using those?

timo when I look at analytics tab it groups things by "tag" which I used to separate my clients out and "task" which I haven't used really. I have been putting the name of the project in the "description" since that is at the top and easy to type I assumed that was the important area to fill out for the project name. So should I actually input the project name where the "task" is?

and there's no way to set a max unit (hours) for a project/task?

taylove918 If you want to efficiently filter or aggregate by a project name, I would consider using a tag or task for that. But even when using the description, you can filter by it in the main view and then view the filtered data set in the Analytics.

some of my clients give me max amount of hours per project, but other clients give me max amount of hours per month to use on all projects for them... so that is also helpful to figure out how to keep track... @timo

@timo so I clock in and out for jobs multiple sometimes the same job for months... is there an easier way to know total time on a project? any suggestions. sometimes a client may give me like 10 hours total to spend on a project. how do I keep track of this without having to do math constantly? can you group things and it totals the time? seems it only shows it week by week not total? see images. image 1 shows multiple projects going on and how I check in and out for a project a lot! then pic 2 shows how if i search for that project it shows me them all but I still have a lot of math to figure out to know how much time I have left to allocate before I go overtime... any suggestions? I love this app more than others but this part of it is taking me hours away doing all this math for invoices or doing the math to know what time I have remaining and I feel like there is likely a solution I just am not sure what it is...

You can use the filter and analytics or export feature for that where it can aggregate over the entire time, not just week by week
