Deleting tasks also deletes history

When deleting a task, the user gets prompted if the task should really be deleted. When the task has time records associated, the user gets asked wether they also should be deleted or not.

When selecting "cancel" there, the whole delete process will be cancelled.

It should be: The task will get deleted, but the records will remain.

This is necessary to not get a very long list of "dead" tasks on the long run.

mrtwinkler Every work units needs to be assigned to a task. What would you like to happen instead? That those work units are being assigned to another task? If so, which task?

Current behavior is not a bug.

I understand that, from a software design perspective. But:

1) Why then ask if I "want to delete the work units as well" when there is no other option the "Yes"? Either the prompt itself is a bug or the fact that "cancel" does also cancel the delete of the task.
2) If you are not able to delete tasks because you need the references, then just pseudo delete them by adding a visibility flag. This way you can "delete" them from the task list and keep them for references in work units, exports, analyses, etc. .

You are right that I could rename the buttons in the 2nd dialog to "yes" and "cancel" but because there is currently no implementation for that case, I cannot a "No" button that deletes the task but not the work units

That would complicate things even more in my opinion. The easiest thing I could imagine I could implement is that the work units will be assigned to the "default" task.

Would you perhaps a new "set task" bulk action in the context menu for the timetracking view grouping items (the "days" or "weeks" depending on the grouping) so that you can unassign a set of work units from a task before deleting it?

I just found out that there already is a "visible" flag button for tasks. That is exactly what I need. Because I just want the most recent tasks in the system bar quick select.

This feature request can be closed/cancelled.

I was going to update my list of "Tasks", so I started deleting tasks in order to have a new set of options.

I didn't pay attention to the second warning that states "One or more work units are assigned to this task. Do you want to delete them?". So I just deleted a whole bunch of data that I still want.

Is there any way to get that data back?
There should be a way to edit your list of tasks without changing the history.
I want to delete my list of available tasks and replace it with different tasks without changing the history of tasks.

If I could go back in time, I would have exported the data before I deleted anything.

If you used the cloud sync (except iCloud) you can import one of the daily backups

The "hidden" feature is made for that use-case. Why isn't it an option for you?
