Crashing on Windows 11

I am running Working Hours on my PC with Windows 11 Home 22H2. Ever since upgrading to Windows 11 I've noticed that Working Hours simply disappears from time to time. When I reopen it, the timer is still running. It's as if I closed the application without turning off the timer. Does anyone know why the app is crashing like this?

Hard to say what is causing this. I see barely any crash reports in my crash reporting tool.
What page is open while the app is crashing? The "time tracking" page?
Do you have the sync enabled? If yes, does the crash also occur when disabling it?
How often exactly is the app crashing? Every hour or more like only once a week?
When exactly is the app crashing? When the PC goes to sleep mode or something similar?
Are you using the "focus timer" feature?
What laptop model are you using (I might be able to match that to one of the few crash reports)?
Can you check the Windows "Event viewer" and see if you see any crash reports in there that you could share?

I almost never navigate to other pages other than the "time tracking" page, so yes, it is crashing while on the "time tracking" page but I have no idea if it would crash on any other page.

The app crashes when I have sync enabled and when I have it disabled.

It crashes within 5 to 10 min of starting the timer. Sometimes it doesn't crash. I have no idea what is triggering the crash. Sometimes, the app simply disappears when there's no timer running.

The app crashes when I am actively using the PC typing or some other activity. It is not in sleep mode.

I am not using the "focus timer" feature. Never do.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Book 13 in 2-in-1 laptop. I posted the rest of my equipment's specs in the pictures above.

I didn't know about Event Viewer, but searching for it, I found this report:

Thanks for the info. A few more questions:
Does the app only crash/hang while the timer is running or also when the timer is stopped (or paused)?
Is the app minimized or is the app window open (maybe in the background and overlaid by other windows) when the app crashes/hangs?
Are you using the small overlay window that can be accessed from the side menu?
Are you using any features that are not enabled by default (e.g. the "idle" detection feature that can be enabled in the "timer control" tab in the app settings)?

timo It crashes the same if the timer is running or stopped. Doesn't matter.

The app is almost always minimized or overlaid by other windows when it crashes. I have not seen it crash yet while looking at it.

I'm not using the small overlay window. I don't have any nondefault features enabled.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I am still puzzled what could cause the crash.
Can you try to not minimize the app (only background it / put other Windows over it) and see if the app still crashes in non-minimized mode?
Also, have you updated the app to v2.9.32 in the meantime and can confirm that this version still crashes as well?
Are you using the app on a PC or a laptop? If it's a laptop, can you tell me the laptop model? Maybe I can connect a crash report to it.

timo I have updated the app to v2.9.32. My laptop model is a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 with the specs that I included in my first message.

I have a similar issue. When swapping Desktops under Windows 11 it often happens that apps (Working Hours, Drawboard PDF, Microsoft To Do) have "disappeard" when returning to the desktop. The have to be restarted but the timer is still running and no date were lost). I am running Working Hours V 2.9.32.0 on a Surface Pro 7 under Windows 11 22H2 build 22621.1344. It looks like the issue could be caused by changes in the recent Windows February Update.

Marco, I think you're on to something! I have the same symptoms you described. My MS To Do app is crashing just like Working Hours.

Since your post, @Marco, I have been thinking that maybe it has to do more with Windows 11 than Working Hours itself.

I came across this article on apps that are crashing randomly (yet persistently) on Windows 11. First, they try to get you to download their PC cleaning software, but after that, they go into their troubleshooting steps.

The first troubleshooting steps is called "Run the Windows Apps troubleshooter" which made me realize that all the apps that are crashing on me (including Working Hours) are Windows Store apps. So I am following the instructions and resetting the Windows Store apps that have the problem. I hope to come back and update you all on the progress.

I still have the same problem, even after resetting my Windows Store apps. Working Hours crashes and Microsoft To Do are two apps that crash repeatedly and consistently. I am uploading a screen recording of the behavior of the app.

Is the crash happening every single time using the steps in your video? Or only sometimes?
I know I asked this before: But the app also crashes when you have the Cloud Sync disabled? It makes no difference if Cloud Sync is enabled or not?
You are using the latest version 2.9.35?

Crash happens every time I do these steps. It crashes in the exact same way even if I have sync disabled. I do have the latest version.

This is so weird, WorkingHours basically does nothing once the app is minimized.
Three more questions: Does it also crash when the timer is paused? Does it also crash when the timer is stopped? Does it also crash when the timer is running, but the current day is collapsed (so that the spinning arrow is not visible)?

Just wanted to post here that I think the problem seems to have been solved. Perhaps it was a recent update, but Working Hours has been pretty stable for me over the last two weeks. Thank you, @timo for all the hard work!

I'd Iike to formally report that my App crashes on Windows 11 as well. I dont see any opportunity to report logs or send reports upon reboot of the applications. I am currently using (2) devices that have the application installed and logged into both. I intermittently log hours on one device one day, but then log hours on another device another day. Never simultaneous timers.

Specs for Laptop1 below (some information redacted due to security):

Version 2.10.27.0
Windows 11 Enterprise

I'll continue to monitor if any related issues. I have seen my app crashed consistently over the last few weeks to 1 month.
